Amid a solemn atmosphere at the historic Eagle Square in Abuja, Nigeria paused on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, to honour the unwavering bravery and ultimate sacrifice of its military heroes during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony.
This annual event serves as a poignant reminder of the valor of thousands of troops who gave their lives defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity since the nation gained independence 64 years ago.
Representing President Bola Tinubu, who was attending the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the UAE, Vice President Kashim Shettima led the nation in paying homage. He participated in the symbolic wreath-laying ceremony alongside senior government officials, military leaders, and key dignitaries.
In attendance were the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria. The solemn proceedings also drew ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, senior military officers, widows of fallen soldiers, and wives of serving officers, all united in a moment of reflection and gratitude.

Earlier, the Senate issued a statement commending the courageous sacrifices of the armed forces. “We salute the dedication of our gallant officers and soldiers who continue to safeguard the nation’s peace and security from both internal threats and external aggression,” it read.
