The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has forecasted high-intensity rainfall between May and June 2025, with coastal cities expected to experience significant downpours that could lead to flash floods.

This projection was disclosed by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, during the official presentation of the 2025 Annual Climate Prediction in Abuja.
According to NiMET, while southern states such as Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Anambra, Lagos, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, and sections of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, and Ondo will see an early onset of rains, the northern and central regions—including Plateau, Kaduna, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Adamawa, and Kwara—are expected to experience a delayed start to the rainy season.

Furthermore, NiMET predicts that several states, including Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, FCT, Ekiti, and Ondo, will witness an earlier-than-usual end to their rainy season compared to long-term averages.

With these climate predictions in mind, Keyamo urged farmers, businesses, and individuals whose activities depend on rainfall to consult the seasonal climate prediction document or seek expert guidance from NiMET to plan accordingly.
