Maguire Banned from Driving and Fined for Speeding Offences

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been disqualified from driving for 56 days and fined £1,052 after admitting to driving at 85mph in a 50mph zone. The England international was sentenced at Bolton Magistrates’ Court following two speeding incidents within a three-day period in March last year.

Maguire, 31, did not attend the hearing, but solicitor Gwyn Lewis represented him. The court was told that on March 5, 2023, Maguire’s Range Rover was clocked speeding at 85mph as it exited a tunnel on Wilmslow Road beneath Manchester Airport’s runway.

Prosecutor Karen Allanson confirmed that Maguire was identified as the driver and registered keeper of the vehicle. She explained that a fixed penalty could not be offered due to the severity of the speeding violation.

“We were unable to offer the defendant a fixed penalty due to the high speed,” Allanson stated.

Maguire pleaded guilty to the offence on October 2. His solicitor acknowledged the gravity of the situation.

“Of course, the speed is wholly excessive, and I fully accept that,” Mr. Lewis said, adding that Maguire’s financial means would allow him to settle the fine within 28 days.

The incident highlights the importance of road safety compliance, even for high-profile athletes, as stricter enforcement of traffic regulations aims to curb dangerous driving behaviours.
