Goldfinger Reborn: Rolls-Royce creates dazzling 22K Gold-plated dream car

Rolls-Royce has unveiled the Phantom Goldfinger, a bespoke, unique, one-of-one Phantom Extended, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the James Bond film Goldfinger. This unique vehicle draws inspiration from the 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Sedanca de Ville featured in the 1964 film, which remains “an enduring muse” for the luxury British car manufacturer.

The creation of this exceptional automobile spanned three years, culminating in a masterpiece that embodies the opulence and intrigue synonymous with the Bond franchise. The Phantom Goldfinger is adorned with bespoke gadgets, many crafted from gold, paying homage to the film’s golden theme.

Among the bespoke features is a gold-plated golf putter affixed to the trunk lid, referencing the iconic golf match between 007 and Auric Goldfinger. The interior boasts picnic tables with 22-karat gold inlays depicting a fictional map of the Fort Knox bullion reserve, and a three-dimensional steel and gold gallery showcasing a map of Switzerland’s Furka Pass, a significant location in the movie.

Nick Rhodes, Bespoke Designer at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, likened these intricate details to “Easter eggs,” subtly hidden throughout the car for enthusiasts to discover. In the film, Goldfinger’s Phantom concealed gold bullion within its doors and bodywork, a concept mirrored in the Phantom Goldfinger through features like a gold-plated Spirit of Ecstasy figurine and a solid 18-karat gold bar shaped as a miniature Phantom, secured in a specially engineered vault within the central console.

While the identity of the owner remains undisclosed, Rolls-Royce describes them as a “car collector and James Bond enthusiast.” The vehicle was meticulously hand-built at the company’s Goodwood facility in southern England, with the client personally initiating the painting process, selecting the distinctive two-tone yellow and black finish reminiscent of Goldfinger’s original Phantom III.

This extraordinary commission exemplifies Rolls-Royce’s commitment to bespoke craftsmanship, seamlessly blending cinematic history with automotive excellence. The Phantom Goldfinger stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of both the James Bond franchise and Rolls-Royce’s unparalleled luxury.
