Bauchi Governor and Wike’s War of Words Turns PDP Into a Circus of Clowns Amid Escalating PDP Crisis

The rift within Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a dramatic turn as Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike continue to exchange barbs over leadership shortcomings and personal ambitions.

Gov Bala Blows hot: I’ve enough water to Quench your fire

In a blistering statement, Governor Mohammed accused Wike of being a “political mercenary” whose legacy would be remembered for betrayal and squandered opportunities. This comment followed Wike’s remarks alleging that Mohammed was using his role as PDP Governors Forum Chairman to mask his own leadership failures.

Accusations Fly as PDP Leadership Fractures
Governor Mohammed’s response, articulated through his media aide Mukhtar Gidado, described Wike’s recent media statements as “bombastic and disjointed,” criticizing his divisive politics and “transactional approach” to governance. Mohammed accused Wike of undermining the very party that nurtured his political rise and of prioritizing personal ambition over collective party interests.

Gov Bala Mohammed Rebukes Wike, Fires threat as Internal Party Rift deepens

“Chief Wike’s ascendancy in politics is a testament to opportunities provided by the PDP. Yet, he gleefully undermines the foundation that nurtured him,” the statement read. Mohammed added that Wike’s “drama and divisiveness” reveal a self-serving nature that alienates even his closest allies.

Wike Fires Back, Labels Mohammed a Hypocrite
In response, Wike, through his media aide Lere Olayinka, hit back by labeling Mohammed as a “fair-weather politician,” pointing to his history of shifting allegiances. Olayinka highlighted Mohammed’s past defections, including his move from the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) to the PDP in 2010 to secure a ministerial role under President Goodluck Jonathan.

Wike finally Replies Gov mohammed

“It’s ironic that someone with Bala Mohammed’s track record of political opportunism would accuse others of transactional politics,” Olayinka remarked.

Governance or Personal Feuds?
Governor Mohammed dismissed Wike’s claims of friendship irrelevance, asserting that governance is built on competence, not personal relationships. He contrasted his achievements in Bauchi State with what he described as Wike’s “erratic behavior” and “double game” of aligning with both the PDP and the APC.

“While Wike thrives on theatrics, Sen. Bala Mohammed focuses on strengthening the PDP as a formidable opposition, countering the APC-led federal government,” Gidado’s statement concluded.

A Party at a Crossroads
The escalating feud between these two prominent PDP figures underscores the growing tensions within the party as it seeks to reposition itself ahead of Nigeria’s next general elections. With both leaders doubling down on their criticisms, the rift threatens to further weaken the party’s already fragile unity.
