El-Rufai Slams Governor Sani, Accuses Him of Backing Tinubu for Self-Interest

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has launched a scathing attack on his successor, Governor Uba Sani, accusing him of supporting President Bola Tinubu for personal financial benefits rather than genuine political alignment.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), El-Rufai suggested that Governor Sani’s unwavering loyalty to the Tinubu administration is tied to the massive federal reimbursements Kaduna State has received in the past 18 months—amounting to over ₦150 billion.

“Every day I see this governor embarrassingly and sycophantically rambling, I used to wonder why? However, confirming that Federal Government ‘reimbursements, interventions, and grants’ in excess of ₦150bn have been given selectively to Kaduna by Tinubu in the last 18 months now explains everything,” El-Rufai wrote.

The former governor’s remarks come in response to Sani’s recent interview, where he expressed bewilderment at the increasing internal criticism of Tinubu’s administration by some of the APC’s founding members.

A Fallout Rooted in Political History

El-Rufai, once a close ally of Tinubu, has now become one of the administration’s most vocal critics. His fallout with the presidency dates back to 2023, when his nomination for a ministerial position was rejected by the Senate, a move that prevented him from securing a spot in Tinubu’s cabinet.

While Sani has continued to stand firmly behind the APC-led government, El-Rufai has distanced himself, often questioning the policies and decisions of the Tinubu presidency.

A Political Storm Brewing in Kaduna?

The accusations from El-Rufai raise deeper questions about the political dynamics within Kaduna and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Is Governor Sani’s support for Tinubu a strategic move for Kaduna’s benefit, or is it, as El-Rufai claims, driven by personal political ambitions?
