Stop Playing Politics with Lives!” — Peter Obi Slams FG Over Kidnapping Crisis

Prominent politician and former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has urged the federal government to take decisive action to curb the growing insecurity in Nigeria. He made a heartfelt appeal for the immediate rescue of citizens held in kidnappers’ captivity, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Obi expressed deep concern over the rising spate of kidnappings and other violent crimes across the nation. According to him, the current state of insecurity is not only troubling but has also instilled widespread fear among the populace.

“The frequent occurrence of crimes, especially kidnapping, in the country today is worrisome and it’s causing a lot of apprehension in the land,” Obi wrote.

He lamented that no one is exempt from the threats posed by this dangerous wave of criminal activities sweeping through many parts of Nigeria. The impact of insecurity, he noted, extends beyond personal safety to critical sectors like agriculture, health, and education.

“Every Nigerian feels the heat of insecurity, which has continued to affect every aspect of our nation, from the agricultural sector, where farmers are often chased out of their farmlands, to the health and educational sectors, where critical workers are often kidnapped or killed,” Obi stated.

Highlighting recent tragic incidents, he mentioned the murder of the Manager of College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala, and the abduction of two Reverend Sisters—one a school principal, the other a teacher—in Anambra State.

“These are individuals who contribute significantly to national development through their sacrifices in farms, schools, and healthcare facilities located in remote villages,” he said.

Obi condemned the senseless kidnappings and killings, stressing that no justification exists for these acts of terror. He called for a united and urgent response from leaders to address the dire situation.

“One wonders, if the reported cases of kidnapping and killings are this numerous, how many more go unreported?” he queried.

He implored the government to deploy all available security resources to eradicate this menace and ensure the safe return of abductees.

Finally, Obi sent a direct message to those perpetrating violence and terror, urging them to renounce their criminal ways.

“To the criminals terrorizing our people, I urge you to have a change of heart and desist from your evil ways. We must not burn down our only nation with terror and violence,” he cautioned.

This passionate plea from Obi adds to the growing calls for heightened security measures and a more proactive approach to combating insecurity in Nigeria. His message resonates with millions of citizens yearning for safety, stability, and a nation free from the grip of fear.
